Richard Crosby and Maya Desai qualified from Birmingham University in 1983 and after working for three years in Wymondham, opened the Poringland Dental Practice in1986 where they worked until 2005.

Richard and Maya’s post-graduate training was mainly at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. Richard completed the Long Restorative course there in 1993. He gained a Masters degree in Prosthetic Dentistry in 2001 and passed the Eastman Diploma in Implant Dentistry in 2011. For 10 years up until December 2012 Richard worked part time in the Oral Health Dept. of the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. He mainly sees and treats people referred to him who require removable dental appliances, in other words dentures. Richard plans to stop practicing in the near future.

Maya gained the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (D.P.D.S.) in 2001 from Bristol University. She then gained a Masters Degree in Endodontics in 2003 from the Eastman Dental Institute. She saw and treated thousands of people referred to her over the following 14 years. She sadly passed away in September 2017.

Barbara Swistak B.D.S. (Lon.) D.P.D.S (Brist) M.Sc. (UCL) M.F.D.S (RCSEng.)

Barbara Swistak is a registered Endoodontic Specialist with the General Dental Council. She qualified from Guy’s Dental Hospital, University of London in 1991.

After undertaking a post as a House Officer in Prosthodontics and Oral Surgery at Birmingham Dental Hospital, Barbara worked as a general dentist in private practice in Norfolk with Richard & Maya for 10 years concurrently obtaining her Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies from the University of Bristol. She then undertook the Masters degree programme in Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London for which she was awarded a Distinction.

She subsequently became a Clinical Teacher at the Institute teaching Endodontics to postgraduate dentists in a part-time capacity for four years. Barbara now devotes all her clinical time to treating patients with root canal issues at the practice and when not doing this is learning to speak Mandarin with her husband and young daughter.

Jonathan Hatton B.Sc B.D.S M.F.D.S (RCSEd.) P.G. Dip. M.Clin.Dent. (Endo) M.R.D. (RCSEng.)

Jonathan Hatton qualified from Barts and The London with honours in his BDS and BSc degrees. He completed his foundation training on the south coast where he spent a year as a maxillofacial senior house officer at St Richard’s hospital in Chichester.

He devoted himself to endodontology thereafter and attended The Eastman Dental Institute, UCL. Jonathan was awarded distinction in his MClinDent (Endodontology) and soon after passed the prestigious MRD examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys playing the guitar and swimming.

Joao Afonso

Joao Afonso joined us in February 2018 practising Prosthodontics (crowns, bridges and dentures). He has completed extensive postgraduate training in Portugal, the UK, Switzerland and Spain, gaining knowledge from some of the world’s leading clinicians. This further ignited his interest and he has spent the last four years pursuing a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (MClinDent) in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, at the prestigious King’s College London, acquiring the skills to treat complex and challenging cases. Joao is gradually taking over the work done by Richard.

All our dental nurses are fully qualified and have additional training in the practice specialisms. Sara has been with the team for 25 years.
